Aging Together in PA Town Hall: Building The Future
Tuesday, September 23 · 7 – 8pm EDT
Rose Lehrman Arts Center
HACC Drive Harrisburg, PA 17110
State leaders, experts & community partners share how they are working to build a future where we can all thrive as we age.
Pennsylvania’s older adult population is growing rapidly. Currently, one in four Pennsylvanians are over age 60; in less than five years, this number will be one in three. To examine this shift and its impacts, public broadcasting stations WVIA and WITF partnered for a year-long initiative — with support from the PA Department of Aging and AllOne Foundation & Charities — called Aging Together in PA.
Aging Our Way, PA — the strategic 10-year plan designed to transform the infrastructure of supports for the Commonwealth’s older adults. Aging Together in PA is aimed at presenting programming to educate and inform about the challenges and opportunities of growing older — and drive discussion in communities.
In conclusion of this year-long initiative, WITF and WVIA are convening state leaders and experts to discuss how the Commonwealth and community partners are coming together to meet the needs of PA’s rapidly growing older adult population. We’ll look at how we can connect and improve services and supports to build a future where we can all thrive as we age.
The first panel, Designing PA’s Future: An Age-Friendly, Accessible, and Inclusive Commonwealth, will include:
· PA Department of Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich
· Governor Josh Shapiro’s Office of Policy and Planning Secretary Akbar Hossain
· PA Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh
· PA Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger
The second panel, Caring for the Commonwealth: Workforce, Families, and the Future will include to-be-determined panelists who advocate and support caregivers and someone who is a caregiver for a loved one.
Aging Together in PA Town Hall: Elder Justice & Dignity
WVIA and WITF assembled a panel of experts to discuss Pennsylvania’s 10-year plan to meet the needs of the Commonwealth’s older adults and the circumstances that led to its inception. Together we explore the challenges faced by older citizens and their caregivers, what services are currently available in our area, and how we can work together to ensure the safety, dignity and joys of aging in PA.
